Standard shape Guitar bending iron. This is produced from a solid aluminium billet and measures 75mm (3″) x 150mm (6″).
Standard Guitar Bending Iron
Back in 2012 when I started to make bending irons, I made two shapes; these were violin and guitar. The violin one was more slender with tighter radii and the guitar one was more “chunky” This is the original basic guitar shape and lends itself to guitars, in particular the shapes involved in the manufacture of classical guitar. I also offer this shape in 250mm height though if you are looking to make larger instruments such a double bases, I would suggest looking at larger irons based on a 5” or 6” diameter billet.
The iron is machined from a solid billet of 6082 T6 aluminium bar and fitted with two 350watt heaters (making a total power of 700watt) facilitating an even distribution of heat, a quick heat up time and adequate maintenance of temperature in use. The 250mm high irons are fitted with two 500watt heaters (making a total power of 1000watt) There is a choice of 230v or 110v power, both being the same wattage.
Beneath the iron is a piece of insulation which prevents excessive heat penetrating into the mounting box. This mounting box is custom made from 1/8” (3.2mm) thick aluminium which is TIG welded and in turn mounted on a base of 18mm birch ply. There is a choice of a tried and tested analogue thermostat (standard) or a digital thermostat to control the temperature. Power is supplied through a braded flex to resit the effects of heat; this is available in standard length of 1.5metre (standard length) or 2.5 metre (extra length).
There are many other shapes and sizes of irons available and I am happy to construct any iron to your particular requirements if that is necessary click here
